When it comes to contract reporting, whatever you do… don’t worry. All systems will provide data entry templates and a comprehensive, easy to use, reporting system that covers all the quality indicators. Here is a quick run down of what’s happening with what.

– Practice Mentoring – the Scottish Executive’s group on Training and Education is working with the RCGP’s SPICEpc to produce searches and advice for practices in establishing disease registers for the quality and outcomes framework. Each PCT will be rolling out a practice mentoring programme to include facilitators who will visit practices and help to set up systems for data entry, searches and reports. A Handbook (Making the GMS Contract work for you) is being produced and will be available on the SCIMP good practice guide website from the end of August : www.ceppc.org/scimp/gpg

– GPASS Version 5.4 will include screens for four contract disease areas: CHD, Hypertension, Asthma and Diabetes with others to follow soon. Practices don’t need to create their own care management screens - in conjunction with SPICE-pc, GPASS will provide data collection screens for ALL the disease categories. The screens which will highlight items required for the contract, are now more user friendly and data will share across all SPICE screens. : www.show.scot.nhs.uk/gpass/.

– EMIS will be launching a new Population Manager programme at the beginning of August which will include the full set of Quality indicators (QI) for the new GMS contract. It will provide background searches and analysis for patient populations in the criteria for each QI. It will list patients identified and excluded and will include an exceptions management facility. See www.emis-online.com.

– EXETER www.protechnic-exeter.co.uk has produced data entry screens in the ten disease areas for the new contract and IPS (VISION) www.inps.co.uk has written contract reports based on a ‘best guess’ of the codes. Torex www.torexhealth.

– EMIS, IPS, TOREX, EXETER and GPASS are all working with the facilitators’ project (part of the practice mentoring programme) and are happy to support it.
