Review: Plundering the Public Sector

David Craig

Publisher: Constable and Robinson (10 April 2006)

Paperback 320pp, £9.99 RRP

ISBN: 1845293746

By Christopher Johnstone

(Note: This review was written in summer 2006)

David Craig is a management consultant poacher turned gamekeeper. He is rightly horrified at what New Labour has done with our taxpayer's money and has written an insider's view of what they have wrought. Tony Blair and his cronies have bought into the Thatcherite view of public services and the civil service. they have a low opinion of both. Public services are all commodities to be sold and bought and the civil service is standing in the way of the elected members. So New Labour has paid ?70 billion, that is seventy thousand million pounds, on management consultants. Worse than this colossal amount of money being spent is that most of it has been wasted. Most of this money has gone of useless expensive computer systems of which Conecting for Health may be the mother of all wastes of money. Although this is a frightening and depressing book, it is essential reading for anyone paying taxes and for anyone considering voting for New Labour.

Plundering the Public Sector is published by Constable and Robinson
